Obituary for Verena Tazzioli

Verena Tazzioli, age 96, of Shelton, peacefully entered into rest on Sunday, December 27, 2020 at Bridgeport Hospital. She was the devoted wife of the late Fabrizio Tazzioli for 41 years.

Verena was born in Bern, Switzerland on February 25, 1924 the daughter of the late Ernst and Lina (Megert) Gosteli.

Matriarch of the family, known as Aunt Vreni to most, she lead a long and accomplished life. Verena spoke four languages— Suisse-German, Italian, French, and English. She came to America in 1968 to help raise her widowed brother’s four children.

Verena was the beloved aunt and surrogate mother to Helen Pipa (John) of Shelton, Ernest Gosteli of Bridgeport, Rudolph Gosteli (Stephanie) of Branford, and Brigitte Berner (Bill) of East Hartford; loving great-aunt to Alison Piccirillo (Matt), Kate Pipa, Carl Berner (Michele), Jessica Berner, Marcelle Bearrs (Scot), and Claire Gosteli, and cherished great-great-aunt to Cailyn and Lilah Piccirillo. She was also survived by several nieces and nephews in Switzerland and Italy. In addition to her husband, Verena was predeceased by two brothers, Ernst Gosteli (Marcelle) and Franz Gosteli (Hedy), and two sisters, Klara Studer (Otto) and Marta Voegeli (Fred).

Verena was a member of the African Violet Society and the Swiss-American Association of Connecticut, as well as Huntington United Methodist Church in her later years. She was a loving aunt, great-aunt, great-great-aunt, and friend that spoiled everyone with her chocolate and attention. She enjoyed gardening, reading, cooking, skiing, drives to the beach in Stratford, getting her hair and nails done, playing cards with friends, going out to lunch, doing puzzles, shopping (especially for her favorite cashmere sweaters), and walking for her health. She passed on her love of sewing, knitting, and needle crafts to her family. Most of all she loved spending time with her family.

The Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd., Shelton has been entrusted with her arrangements. Friends may leave condolences at www.riverviewfh.com and give to any charity of their choosing in her honor.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial graveside service at Lawn Cemetery, 50 Lane Street, Huntington, on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at 11 AM.
