Obituary for Shirley Cole Mikita (Cole)

Shirley Cole Mikita, age 97, of Shelton entered into rest on Friday, April 30, 2021 at her home with her loving family by her side.

She was the devoted wife of the late Joseph Mikita. Shirley was born in Derby on July 6, 1923 daughter of the late William and Edith (Waldron) Cole and was a Shelton resident for most of her life.

She was an executive assistant at Emhart for over 25 years until her retirement in 1983. Shirley was an active member of the Shelton United Methodist Church. She also was a member of the Shelton and Derby Senior Centers, Farrel Old Timers Club and AARP.

She was the beloved aunt of Susan (Cole) Kick and her husband Bob, Linda (Rollinson) Vincent and her husband John, William Cole and his wife Donna, and Richard C. Rollinson and his wife Susan and stepmother of David Mikita and Joseph Mikita and step-grandmother of Jana, Nicole and Casey Mikita. Shirley was also survived by great nieces and nephews Al Fette, Cory Strader, Galan Strader, Danielle (Sidebottom) Witt, and Emily Rollinson. She was predeceased by a brother William C. Cole, a sister Muriel Rollinson, her nieces Nancy (Cole) Brody & Patricia (Cole) Strader, and her great nephew Michael Cole.

A walk through visitation will take place on Friday from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd., Shelton. Visitors are required to wear masks and social distance as they pay their respects and exit without lingering to ensure all guests can come through. Her funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 11:30 am for her immediate family. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
