Obituary for Robin Kneen Hartel (Kneen)

Robin Kneen Hartel, age 67, of Shelton entered into rest on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Griffin Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Robin, a lifelong Shelton resident, was born in Derby on December 2, 1953, daughter of the late Rodman Kneen, Sr. and Ruth (Ledger) Kneen. She attended Shelton High School and after spending her senior year studying abroad in Brazil, she went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from Springfield College.

She married the love of her life, the late Bruce E. Hartel, in a Batman themed ceremony and together they enjoyed many chilly “old car rides” as members of the Connecticut Historical Automobile Society (CHAS) and the Connecticut Crankin’ Yanks Chapter of the Model T Ford Club of America.

Robin spent her career as a credit manager at Philips Medical Systems North America where she worked with many of her best friends. Through the years, she was active in the Huntington Congregational Church community where she served on the board of Deacons, ordered flowers for Sunday services, and was a co-founding member of “Da Group”. After retirement, Robin loved to spend her time volunteering at Center Stage Theatre in Shelton designing and painting production scenery and watching it all come together in weekend shows. At Christmas time, you could also find her in the cashier hut at Jones Family Farms.

Robin will be forever missed by her daughters, Cady Hart-Petterssen and her husband Nick and Cory Susanne Miller and her husband Matt and her brother Rodman Kneen Jr. and his wife Jayne. She loved her roles as Grandma Rah to Oryon, Camden and Connor and Aunty Rah to Jayson Kneen and his wife Dana and Jessyca Ammerman and her husband Tom and Great Aunty Rah to Jay Patrick Kneen.

Robin leaves behind so many dear friends that she cherished. The relationships she formed were lifelong, genuine and true. Her contagious smile, humor and strength inspired all those around her.

A public walk-through visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, January 22, 2021 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd., Shelton. Visitors are required to wear masks and social distance as they walk through, pay their respects and exit without lingering to ensure all guests can come through.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Huntington Congregational Church at 19 Church St, Shelton CT 06484 or at www.huntingtonucc.org.
