Obituary for Joanne Atkinson
Joanne C. Atkinson, age 85, of Shelton entered into rest on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at Shelton Lakes with her loving family by her side. She was born in Bridgeport on June 7, 1935 daughter of the late John and Cecil (York) Raffay. Joanne was an accountant at General Electric in Bridgeport for many years before her retirement. She was the bookkeeper and also served on the board of The Pines Condominiums.
Joanne loved to read Geopolitical Spy Thrillers and some of her favorite authors were Brad Thor and David Baldacci. She also enjoyed playing Michigan rummy with her best friends of over 40 years, Joyce Daniak and Gail Rowell. Joanne enjoyed going out for dinner to try new dining experiences. Most of all, she cherished spending time with her family who meant everything to her. Joanne was the beloved mother of Brad Atkinson and his wife Shannon and her niece Mary Flores and her husband Juan who she cared for as her daughter, loving grandmother of Tyler Atkinson and Samantha Atkinson and sister of Jill Walker. She was also survived by her cherished nieces and nephews, JoDee Dagnone, Jennifer Kurowski, Jay Marlin and Jarrett Marlin. Joanne was predeceased by a brother Jay Raffay and a sister Janice Marlin.
A walk-through visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, March 14th from 1 to 3 PM at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd., Shelton. Visitors are required to wear masks and social distance as they walk through, pay their respects and exit without lingering to ensure all guests can come through.
The family requests that memorial contributions may be made to Special Olympics Connecticut, 2666 State St., Ste 1, Hamden, CT 06517.
