Obituary

Francis R. "Brut" Markut, age 79 of Monroe, passed away unexpectedly at his home. He was born October 9, 1941 and was raised in Shelton, son to the late Frank and Mary Markut, and was married to his beloved wife, Elizabeth, of 57 years. He lived in Monroe for over 50 years.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Frank Markut and his wife Dawn of Newtown, David Markut of Monroe and Sean Markut of West Haven. He has three grandchildren who were the apple of his eye, Christopher, Erin and David. He is also survived by one sister Blanche Grosser and husband Frank of Shelton, sister-in-law Corrine Markut of Monroe, and several nieces and nephews. Francis is predeceased by brothers Richard Markut and William Markut.

Francis worked as a skilled carpenter for Local 210 for over 50 years. His pleasures were simple and earthly. He was an avid gardener and loved to fish and go camping and just being outdoors in his free time. Loved telling interesting stories of days gone by. Some of his favorite moments were sitting by a crackling fire listening to Classical music and being with his beloved family. Brut had a kind and gentle nature that will be missed terribly.

A walk through wake will take place for family and friends on Monday April 12, 2021 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Riverview Funeral Home 390 River Rd., Shelton. Visitors are required to wear masks and social distance as they walk through, pay their respects and exit without lingering to ensure all guests can come through. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 13, 2021, at 11:00 am at St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, 46 Church Hill Rd. in Newtown.

Memorial contributions are requested by the family to the Vietnam Veterans of America at https://vva.org/donate/

Our heartfelt condolences and prayers go out to all of Frank's family, relatives and friends on their unexpected and sad loss. Anytime our paths crossed he would cheerfully converse and discuss events and things about his wife, kids, family, and other special people in his life, all with a sly smile and contagious laugh. I fondly remember working with him and his brother Bill as a teenager on carpentry projects for my father down on the river, and anytime he was home while I was delivering fuel to his house he would come out and talk happily about recent events with him and his family. I'm sure he is with his brothers and all the rest of our loved ones watching over and guiding the rest of us through our daily lives, he was a great guy, a patriarch his family can be proud of and will surely be missed by all that knew him, may God's blessing go out to him and all of you.
